Tournament Details

Tournament Format

The Indy Hoop Festival tournament format will consist of pool play on Saturday, leading into single-elimination playoffs on Sunday. Teams will be carefully placed in competitive brackets based on player ages, heights, and experience. The results of pool play will provide the basis for seeding teams into the playoffs. Due to differing sizes of brackets and pools, teams may have a different number of Saturday pool games. However, every team will get a minimum of three scheduled games over the course of the two-day tournament. All of a team’s games will be played on the same court with rare exception, where tournament officials may choose to move specific games

Awards

All registered players will receive a player T-Shirt commemorating their participation in Indy Hoop Festival. T-Shirts may be picked up at the tournament information center anytime during the tournament weekend. Players are not required to wear these during gameplay. The champions and runners up from each individual bracket will receive additional awards commemorating their achievement. Both the men’s and women’s overall champions in the Adult Elite Division will win a $2,500 cash prize per team.

Game Officiating/Player Responsibility

Indy Hoop Festival will utilize trained referees to officiate on every playing court. Players should come to the tournament prepared and understanding the specific tournament rules. Rules are available for download on this website. Players are also expected to ensure that the final game score has been recorded accurately on the scoresheet by the Official. One player representative from each team must sign the scoresheet after each game and by doing so, verifies accuracy of the written score.

Game Schedule/Court Location

We anticipate having the tournament schedule published no later than 6pm on August 17, 2017. Once published, you will be able to look up your team’s court location and game schedule here on the website.    For an even easier way to get your schedule and game results, download the Indy Hoop Festival Team Tracker mobile app. Whether you are a player or spectator, this mobile app will make navigating the tournament a breeze by giving you real-time access to game schedules, results, court locations, site map, schedule of activities, and important announcements. The app will be available here for download on August 17, 2017 or as soon as the tournament schedule is published.

I completed the registration. How do I know for sure that my team is in the tournament?

Upon successfuly completing registration, an email will immediately be sent out to the team organizer. If you complete the payment process and do not receive a receipt email, please check your Junk email folder. If you do not see it, please contact us. Remember though...your team must be paid and include at least three registered players prior to the registration deadline in order to be placed in the tournament.

Do all team members have to be the same age?

No. You can build your team however you like. Keep in mind, however, that it may not be possible to bracket teams with very diverse player characteristics against other teams of similar makeup. Teams are required to register for the division matching the age of their oldest player. For example, a team with three 19 yr. olds and a 20 yr. old will register in the Adult Division, not the Teen Division.

Can I play on more than one team?

While we do allow individuals to play on more than one team, we cannot control game schedules to guard against scheduling conflicts. Individuals playing on multiple teams could have multiple games scheduled at the same time.

Can we enter a co-ed team with only one member of the opposite gender?

Yes. Keep in mind, however, that co-ed teams must have both male and female players on the court at all times. Therefore, on a team with three males and one female, the female would have to play all minutes in each game with no rest. If this female would become injured or otherwise unable to play, then the entire team would be disqualified.

If specific co-ed teams cannot be fairly placed into pure co-ed brackets, we will place these teams in the most appropriate all-male brackets. Co-ed teams placed in male brackets will not be required to have players of both sexes on the court at all times. Co-ed teams are not allowed in the High School or Adult Elite Divisions.

Should my team enter the Elite Division?

The Elite Divisions each include separate male and female sub-divisions. The Elite Divisions are designed to attract the most competitive and talented teams from this region and beyond. The level of play in the Elite Divisions is expected to be very high. Teams entering the Elite Divisions will be placed regardless of player heights, ages, and experience.

The overall champions in both the men’s and women’s Adult Elite Divisions will win a $2,500 cash prize per team.

Teams looking for a less serious, more recreational experience should enter the non-elite division appropriate for their players’ ages.
